National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials
2008 Baltimore Tour and Meeting Announcement

County Parks Tour NACPRO will be presenting a professional educational tour of several County parks in conjunction the NRPA Congress in Baltimore. The annual educational tour will be held on Saturday, October 18th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bus will leave the Baltimore Hilton and return to the same location. Featured tour sites include:
The Glenwood Community Center a true “community facility” built to serve the growing population in the western part of Howard County. The facility is shared by the Departments of Recreation & Parks, Health, and Police as well as the Office on Aging. Features include a fitness room, commercial kitchen, double gymnasium, pre-school classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, and a senior activity room.
South Germantown Recreational Park acquired in the 1960s, in order to preserve open space and provide parkland for residents in northern Montgomery County. Most of the park’s 695 acres of rolling hills were once the James and Macie King Farm, a working dairy farm since the mid-1800s. The park’s state-of-the-art facilities offer visitors a variety of leisure activities from which to choose, including hiking, biking, archery, miniature golf, swimming, soccer, picnicking, and adventure play, to name just a few. Facilities are still being added to accommodate residents’ diverse interests.
Prince George's Equestrian Center and Show Place Arena offers every comfort and convenience for show managers, exhibitors, and spectators alike. The indoor facility boasts of internationally acclaimed footing. The show ring measures 120 x 240 feet, enough for any equestrian discipline to work in comfortably. The climate-controlled arena is perfect for every season and equipped with a public address and light systems, fully meeting industry standards. A dot matrix scoreboard tallies all types of equestrian events. Seating for 3,000 is comfortable and unobstructed.
Lunch will be provided. Cost for the tour is $65. Pre-registration is recommended to insure a lunch.
